The 1995 season

The Warriors' inaugural season, playing out of Ericsson Stadium in Auckland after entering the Australian Rugby League premiership as the Auckland Warriors. The first-grade side was coached by John Monie. Wahpedia catalogues 3 distinct 1995 Warriors designs in total, 2 of them first-grade match jerseys, all listed on the 1995 season page.

Maker and sponsor

Canterbury supplied the on-field jerseys in 1995, a one-season arrangement that makes 1995 kit distinctive. In the mid-1990s supporter replicas were made by Lenco and Peerless rather than the on-field maker, so a Lenco or Peerless label identifies a fan version, not a fake. The front-of-jersey sponsor in 1995 was DB Bitter.

Collector's notes

One-off jerseys like this are among the rarest Warriors designs and the hardest to authenticate, so provenance from the club or a player is worth more than condition. To check a 1995 special jersey, compare the neck and hem labels with the maker for that season (Canterbury), make sure the sponsor set matches 1995 rather than a neighbouring year, and compare stitching, collar and sponsor placement against the photo above. Replicas are usually a looser cut in a lighter fabric than player-issue jerseys, which also carry a number and, in most eras, a tighter athletic fit. Data confidence for this entry is medium.
